I am 25 years old and I have a genetic disease which was diagnosed at the age of 11. Between the ages of 11 and 18/19, the disease did not handicap me too much, and did not prevent me from continuing my studies. Around the age of 18, a change in the disease meant that I started to withdraw into myself. I no longer wanted to do anything. Luckily, my parents pushed me to continue my studies and I obtained my Brevet de Technicien Supérieur qualification (equivalent to British BTEC HND). Despite this, my disability was preventing me from doing what I wanted to do, and was thus isolating me from others. At this time, I started surfing the Internet and joining discussion groups. Going into these forums gave me the impression that I was slowly starting to get back some kind of social life, a virtual one, but a real one all the same.
These discussions led to regular correspondence, and to some meetings which allowed me to make new friends.
One the evening of 21st June 2000, I went online to chat a little and by chance, during a discussion, I came into contact with the man who was to become my husband in 2002 and the father of my child in 2004.
Chance is an amazing thing, what would have happened if I had not been online that day???
Going into those discussion forums, I was looking for correspondents, maybe friends, but I would never have thought of marriage, and that’s how it has turned out …

That is another reason why I decided to create this site. So that things are no longer left to chance, so that everyone has the highest chance of experiencing what I experienced and am continuing to experience. |
